Today is Palm Sunday.

Lift up your heads, O gates!
and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
that the King of glory may come in.

Psalm 24

0 Of David. A Psalm.
1  The earth is the LORD’S and all that is in it,
  the world, and those who live in it;
2  for he has founded it on the seas,
  and established it on the rivers.
3  Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD?
  And who shall stand in his holy place?
4  Those who have clean hands and pure hearts,
  who do not lift up their souls to what is false,
  and do not swear deceitfully.
5  They will receive blessing from the LORD,
  and vindication from the God of their salvation.
6  Such is the company of those who seek him,
  who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah
7  Lift up your heads, O gates!
  and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
  that the King of glory may come in.
8  Who is the King of glory?
  The LORD, strong and mighty,
  the LORD, mighty in battle.
9  Lift up your heads, O gates!
  and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
  that the King of glory may come in.
10  Who is this King of glory?
  The LORD of hosts,
  he is the King of glory. Selah

Daily Prayer (based on Psalm 24:7)

What a privilege to welcome You into my life, Lord. Though I have been a believer now for over 40 years, it is still my joy to greet You each day. Not that I feel this joy all the time, as you know. But when I sit back and think about who You are as the glorious King of kings, and the fact that You want to be in my life, I marvel and I rejoice. Come in, Lord! Be the King of glory in my life. Rule over me in every way. May I live freely under Your gracious reign today, tomorrow, and each day ahead. Be my King! May I be your humble, faithful, and gracious subject.

Let Your glory shine upon me, Lord, that I might delight in You. Let Your glory shine through me, so that others might see You in my life. Let Your glory be magnified in me, that my words and deeds might lead to Your praise. King of glory, my life is open to You. Come on in!

Postscript

On Palm Sunday my church always sings "All Glory, Laud, and Honor," by Theodulph of Orleans (A.D. 820). It's a marvelous hymn!

Refrain:

All glory, laud and honor,
To Thee, Redeemer, King,
To Whom the lips of children
Made sweet hosannas ring.

Verses

Thou art the King of Israel,
Thou David’s royal Son,
Who in the Lord’s Name comest,
The King and Blessed One.

The company of angels
Are praising Thee on High,
And mortal men and all things
Created make reply.

The people of the Hebrews
With palms before Thee went;
Our prayer and praise and anthems
Before Thee we present.

To Thee, before Thy passion,
They sang their hymns of praise;
To Thee, now high exalted,
Our melody we raise.

Thou didst accept their praises;
Accept the prayers we bring,
Who in all good delightest,
Thou good and gracious King.
