O send out your light and your truth;
let them lead me. . . .

Psalm 43:3a

Yesterday's psalm                         Permalink for today's Daily Psalm                  Tomorrow's psalm

Psalm 43

1  Vindicate me, O God, and defend my cause
  against an ungodly people;
 from those who are deceitful and unjust
  deliver me!
2  For you are the God in whom I take refuge;
  why have you cast me off?
 Why must I walk about mournfully
  because of the oppression of the enemy?
3  O send out your light and your truth;
  let them lead me;
 let them bring me to your holy hill
  and to your dwelling.
4  Then I will go to the altar of God,
  to God my exceeding joy;
 and I will praise you with the harp,
  O God, my God.
5  Why are you cast down, O my soul,
  and why are you disquieted within me?
 Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
  my help and my God.

Daily Prayer (based on Psalm 43:3a)

Without You, dear Lord, I'm left to grope in darkness. I can't find the path on my own. I can't find life in all its fullness. I'm truly lost and without hope. But You are the light, the light in which all things become clear. You are pure light, more brilliant than anything I can imagine, more pristine than the clearest star.

Without You, dear Lord, I'm mired in falsehood and confusion. I cannot know what is right. I cannot know where I fit in the cosmos. But You are the Truth, O God, the Truth in which all other truths hold together, the Truth beyond all human perceptions. In You there is no hint of error or ignorance or inadequacy.

Gracious Father, thank You for sending Your Son as the Light of the world, through whom I see all things. Thank You for sending Him as the Truth incarnate, through whom we know You, and who we are, and where we belong in the Your creation.

Postscript

"Pure Light"
by Matt Redman and Louie Giglio

O, to see You as You are
To glimpse the wonders yet unseen
Assist my sight, unveil my eyes
To see You
Lord, to know You as You are
To even dare to speak or stand
Though marked beloved, to fall as dead
When I see You

And through grace untold, to see You
With this heart unveiled, to know You
Lord, in Your pure light

How great the glory of Your name
How small the voice I humbly bring
Yet with my all I raise a song
When I see You
It is the song of love's pure light
The grace reflected in these eyes
The overflow of those who know
They have seen You

We are disgraced, but You graced us
With the warmth of Your forgiveness
Now You lead us ever closer
To the pure light of Your holiness

And I'll sing of the wonders of Your grace
Sing of the wonders of Your grace
Sing of the wonders of Your grace, O Lord
And I'll tell of the glory of Your name
Tell of the glory of Your name
Tell of the glory of Your name, O Lord
