Psalm 40 0To the leader. Of David. A Psalm. |
Daily Prayer (based on Psalm 40:16) I do love Your salvation, dear Lord. Words cannot express my gratitude for what You have done for me in Christ. The thought that I am forgiven and accepted by You – on the basis of Your grace alone – is a dear one, indeed. So, then, may I learn to rejoice in Your salvation all day long. May I learn to say continually, "You are great, Lord!" May the thought of my salvation sustain me today, when I face frustration, or discouragement, or exhaustion. Indeed, may it be a cause of rejoicing. Help me, dear Father, to be glad in You today, because You have saved me from sin and death, and because You continually save me again and again from the messes I make in life.Postscript The notion of continual prayer is one that appears often in Scripture, and in the writings of faithful Christians. It is a challenging one, indeed. Consider, for example, the counsel of Brother Lawrence in The Practice of the Presence of God. He said: "That we should establish ourselves in a sense of GOD’s Presence, by continually conversing with Him. That it was a shameful thing to quit His conversation, to think of trifles and fooleries."
