Psalm 4

To the leader: with stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.
1   Answer me when I call, O God of my right!
    You gave me room when I was in distress.
    Be gracious to me, and hear my prayer.
2   How long, you people, shall my honor suffer         shame?
    How long will you love vain words, and seek         after lies?  Selah
3   But know that the LORD has set apart the         faithful for himself;
    the LORD hears when I call to him.
4   When you are disturbed, do not sin;
    ponder it on your beds, and be silent.  Selah
5   Offer right sacrifices,
    and put your trust in the LORD.
6   There are many who say, “O that we might         see some good!
    Let the light of your face shine on us, O         LORD!”
7   You have put gladness in my heart
    more than when their grain and wine abound.
8   I will both lie down and sleep in peace;
    for you alone, O LORD, make me lie down in         safety.

Daily Prayer (based on Psalm 4:3)

Dear Lord, so often I think that You have called me to a task, and indeed You have. I'm to serve You with all that I am, living for your kingdom in this world. I am Your subject, Your disciple, Your missionary in this world. But I too easily miss an even more amazing calling. You have set me apart, not only to do things for You, but simply for You. You desire relationship with me. You want my friendship. What a wonder, that the God of the universe actually wants me, to know me and be my friend. How I praise You for setting me apart, not just for service, but for Yourself! (see also John 15:13-15).

Postscript

"Befriended" by Matt Redman
Copyright © 2002 Thankyou music

Befriended,
Befriended by the King above all kings.
Surrendered,
Surrendered to the Friend above all friends

Chorus:
This will be my story
This will be my song
You'll always be my Savior
Jesus You will always have my heart

Invited,
Invited deep into this mystery
Delighted,
Delighted by the wonders I have seen

Astounded,
Astounded that Your gospel beckoned me
Surrounded,
Surrounded, but I've never been so free

Determined,
Determined now to live this life for You
You're so worthy,
My greatest gift would be
The least You're due
